RecommendationI recommend this book anyone who is 11 years old and up who likes World War II. It tells about the Holocaust in Germany and lots of racism against the Jewish people in Germany. One day Friedrich walked past a store and saw an old lady crying. The sign said, "Do not buy from Jews". One other interesting thing about the story is the strong friendship between the narrator and Friedrich. Their friendship couldn't be broken. When Friedrich was on trial for breaking the window, the narrator said, "I broke the window". That is an example of the true friendship that they have. Friedrich is a good book to read and the story is based on true friendship.

Friedrich, by Hans Peter Richter, is a tragic tale about a young boy, Friedrich, who's mother dies, who's house is taken, who's father is deported and who is picked on and descriminated against all because he is jewish. Set in Germany between 1925 and 1938, it is told through the eyes of Friedrich's best friend. This book really opened my eyes to the fact of how lucky I am. It also showed how much living in a sheltered community has successfully sheltered me. Before I read this book, I had read many other books on the Holocost and I pretty much knew the horror of the consentration camps, or "work camps" as some of them are called. But I didn't know what the jews in Germany, who were "lucky" enough not to be in concentration camps went through. It gave me a whole new perspective on WWII. It is definatly worth reading, whether for the information, or for the purpose of reading a really well written book.

Friedrich is a good book for those looking for information on the life of a pre-teenager durring the Holocaust. On the other hand I wouldn't suggest it for pleasure reading. One reason I wouldn't suggest this book is that the author skips from event to event. I wouldn't suggest it for young readers. It has a large vocabulary. It's not a book you want to read after the first chapter. The narrorater becomes close friends with Friedrich, a Jew. The author tells you about everything that Friedrich goes through.

Friedrich is a wonderful book! It provides a very realistic look at WWII from the eyes of a child. I've just read this book in German, for a German class. It is not difficult - I'm currently at the 300 level at my University, and had few problems understanding this book. For language students, I recommend reading this book in German, or both languages - it is wonderful to get a break from the Grammatical side of the language! Viel Glueck!

I'm reviewing the book "Friedrich" by Hans Peter Richter. It is about a Jewish boy's experience in Nazi Germany told by his non-Jewish friend. It would be a great book for a history class because it explains how badly the Jews were persecuted during the Third Reich. It was a real page turner and I finished it in one night. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to know more about how the Nazis persecuted the Jews.

This book chaned my whole view on the subject of the Holocast, never did I know what pain and suffering so many Jews had to go through, and this book explained it all. Scenes where Friedrich was made fun of, kicked out of, and accused of made me want to cry for him.

i read friedrich for my 10th grade world civ. class. i usually dont enjoy assigned books, but this was truly great. THe story of 2 friends not of the ame religion, one jewish, during nazi germany was truly a heart warming tale. whimtan ma
